Friends,
First it was Sony PS3, then District 9. This is a new advert on Australian TV (Sky News to be precise) depicting Nigeria as a nation of scam artistes. This not is just a subtle reference to Nigeria, the advert has Nigeria inscription!
But where is it going to stop? It seems Mrs Dora Akunyili has a lot of work to do if she is really serious about her 're-branding' project.
Or what do you think? Hmmm....

This advert only hit the Australian TV this week. I saw it for the first time this morning.
I'm not sure if Nigerian authorities (including the Nigerian High Commission in Australia) are aware of it.
Something has to be done. Dora or the the real mugu in Canberra can't do anything. It is you and I that is stigmatized. Enough!
Kachi
Well its is not a secret that Australians are stupid, racist and hateful. But having said that our people and leaders are to blame for letting things to get to this point. Only two things can save Nigeria and they are total change of power to a younger and better educated youth or war that would lead to a breakaway region in the Niger/Delta. Nothing else!!
Can someone pls tell me what is wrong with the advert?
I did not find it in any way offensive. Just laughable...
Ok, this is just funny. But tiny drops make a mighty ocean right? And I'm sorry 2 say, but ignorance is 2nd nature for many ppl outside Africa; all they know is what they are fed.
I can remember in class 2 wks ago some guy who I was cool with was giving an example about a "Nigerian prince"...all I can say is he (and nobody else in the class btw) cannot even dare try that again...was so much fun watching turn red now that I remember lol!
I was concerned the first time that I played this.
But the second time through I noticed that, just after the loud noise, he starts to speak with an Australian accent. I don't think that he is supposed to be Nigerian at all!
Well clearly the fact is Nigeria already has the reputation for 419 scam..In fact local terminologies such as "Mugu" is well known to describe victims of 419 scams. What we need to do is focus, strengthen & promote the positive attributes of the Nigerian spirit & character and soon this image will simply wither away naturally. Our leaders should start should at themselves in a mirror and acknowledge that the fact that are solely responsible for the this dent in our national reputation. Maybe when they realize that scam they perpetrated on their own citizens for so long since independence due to greed and negative politics has metamorphosed into this ugly beast that now stares at them in the face things will change for the better!
